What is a Career in Real Estate Photography like?
Being a real estate photographer is a very exciting career to get into. You see so many different properties. Some are surrounded by forest, some are gorgeous waterfront properties, some homes are worth millions and some are your average home. There are times when you are super busy and have 2-3 listings in a day and there are times when it’s a bit slower and you focus on the “other” part of running your business. You are in charge of doing your own invoices, marketing, and keeping a great reputation with clients. For the most part I usually get a couple days notice about a future property, but sometimes you get under 24 hours notice. The good thing is you can work around your own availability, but also have to organize with the agent and homeowner. You have a short deadline to get the photos back to real estate agents...usually within 24-48 hours depending on when the real estate agent needs to get the home on the market. In our fast paced market in this area I usually have the photos back to the agent that night. The part that works best for me is the fact that I get to edit the photos from the convenience of my home, and being a mom that is a huge perk for me!
My name is Nicki Bested and I started working in the real estate field in 2008 as a home stager in the Windsor, Ontario area in Canada. I'm a mom of 3 young kids and needed a career that was flexible, and where I could work from home if needed. In the last few years the need for real estate photographers has grown as more and more people are searching the internet for homes. Real estate agents know that they need to compete with other realtors in the area and are looking for professionals to capture the property as best as possible. Once I realized the demand for real estate photographers in the area, I decided to learn photography. I have an eye for detail and design and take the extra time to make sure the property looks its best for real estate photos. I'm always looking to further my expertise in the area of photography (specializing in real estate) and make sure the course is up to date as well. I absolutely love my career as a real estate photographer and I'm excited to share my knowledge with future students.
